#WiccanHaus Spotlight Week 8: Shifter's Song by @VanessaNWrites @MusaPublishing

The Wiccan Haus is a series of shared-world books, which means that multiple authors will write books set in the same world. The books are stand alones and can be read in order. However, we recommend that you read Shifting Hearts first, because this book introduces you to the world, the residents, and the magic of the Wiccan Haus.

Each week I am spotlighting a Wiccan Haus book on my blog. Not only am I an author for the series, I'm also a fan!

Week #8:

by Vanessa North

When his brother goes missing en route to the Wiccan Haus, Edouard discovers an unexpected ally--and more.
Edouard Bonsaint has a bear-sized problem. He hasn't shifted in ten years, and isn't sure he even can anymore. Chaperoned by his youngest brother, Bruno, he heads to the Wiccan Haus to ask Rekkus for help. But when Bruno doesn't show up on the other side of the portal, Edouard's inability to shift is no longer his biggest problem.
Lincoln Tucker has it all: money, fame, and a golden voice. But he's in the closet twice over--few people know he's gay, and even fewer know he can shift into a songbird at will. Downtime at the Wiccan Haus between tours allows him to be himself. Throw a big toppy bear-shifter into the mix, and Lincoln might just have all he's ever wanted--if he can trust himself to hold on to Edouard.
With passions and tempers burning hot, can Lincoln help Edouard bring forth the bear and save his brother?

My Baby is Two! #BookBirthday More Than A Fantasy #1NS @DecadentPub

My Baby is TWO!

And what a fine, strapping two year old he is! Okay, before I get us in trouble, let me set the record straight. Gabriel is definitely of age to do all those wonderful things you’re thinking of when you look at him on the cover of More Than a Fantasy.

My baby is two because this is the two year book birthday for More Than a Fantasy, which began my journey with Decadent Publishing and 1Night Stand. What a fabulous two years it has been!

Since More Than a Fantasy, I have published three more 1Night Stand books -- One Night With the Bride, One Night With the Bridesmaid and One Night with the Groom – and contracted a fourth book, One Night With the Best Man.

I have also tried my hand at Decadent’s Challenge series, shedding tears as I wrote the book of my heart, Captivating the CEO.

When Decadent put out the call to create a twisted version of an assigned fairy tale at the beginning of this year, my hand shot in the air. I was assigned the obscure, slightly gruesome Three Army Surgeons, which I twisted into a comedic second chance romance in Once Upon a Marriage.

And just a couple weeks ago, I released A Model Hero – Mr. September in the sexy Calendar Men series.

All of this started two years ago when I read the guidelines for the 1Night Stand series and knew Madame Eve wanted me to bring Regina and Gabriel together for More Than a Fantasy:

Regina’s fantasies about her hot marketing assistant, Gabriel, are interfering with her focus at work. In desperation, she turns to Madame Eve to give her a one night stand with a man who looks just like him. When the Gabriel arrives in her hotel room, she must choose between walking away and playing out her daydreams with the real thing. Their one night becomes a wrestling match for control as Regina strives to keep the upper hand. But Gabriel is just as determined to show her how to work together for business and for pleasure.

As passion trumps protocol, their one night stand quickly becomes much more than a fantasy.

Sara Daniel writes what she loves—irresistible romance, from sweet to erotic and everything in between. She lives her own happily-ever-after romance with her hero husband. Connect with her online at:

#Inspiration for Bad Traveler #foodieromance by @LolaKarns @DecadentPub

Bad Traveler
By Lola Karns
Published by Decadent Publishing
Genre: Contemporary Small town Romance, Foodie Romance, Heat Level 3

Recipes are a way of life for Gwen Jones. Take one single mother, her infant daughter and a business plan for a small town bakery. Combine with an eventful cross-country flight, chance encounter with her college crush and a dash of motion sickness. Stir in a few nuts, or family members, and large quantities of chocolate. Will this recipe be an oven oops, or as delicious as her alma matter’s newest coach?

Having survived an attack in Afghanistan that cost him a leg and a wife, Kyle Collins developed a strategy to find meaning in life. He may be an assistant basketball coach but he refuses to sit on the sidelines. When the runs into the woman whose lips are as unforgettable as her brownies, Kyle decides to spice up Gwen’s recipes.

When a secret ingredient is thrown into the mix, can their recipe for a happily-ever-after rise to the occasion, or will it end up a hot mess?

Excerpt:
“Or we could go to my shop, drink some coffee or have cookies and milk. I have my keys.”

“Perfect.” His heart thumped as he put the car in gear. No one would bother them. They would be alone in a cozy space she’d created. The absence of students left the streets virtually empty. Her gloved hand covered his for the five-minute drive. After a few turns, they parked behind the store and entered through the kitchen.

“What will you have? Unfortunately, I have tons of inventory left from today.” She opened the back side of the display counter, revealing about a dozen or so of six different types of cookies. “I swore I wouldn’t sell day-old cookies, but I may bundle up some at a discount rate tomorrow since there are so many.” The touch of sadness in her voice made him want to whip out his wallet and buy them all up.

“I’ll take an oatmeal raisin, a chocolate chip, and…. Are those ginger snaps?”

“Actually, those are molasses cookies. They are spicy like a ginger snap, but different.” She stacked an assortment of cookies on a plate. “It’s my nana’s recipe. See what you think. Coffee?”

“Don’t make coffee on my account. I’m too wired already. I’d rather have milk.”
“Me, too.” She poured milk into a couple of mugs and started toward the corner table, which featured a plush, secondhand love seat. He followed with the cookies. A rapping on the window drew their attention to a couple outside. Gwen pointed to the Closed sign, but the couple persisted.

He walked to the door. “We’re closed.”

She rushed to his side, adding, “We’ll be open Tuesday at seven a.m. We hope to open in the evenings starting in late January.”

The couple walked away.

“I could have made a sale, but….” She sounded frustrated and tired.

“I think we should stay in the kitchen. I doubt people will bother us if we have lights on back there.”

A spark returned to her eyes. “If we sit on the floor behind the counter, no one will know we we’re here. They’ll think someone left the lights on by accident.”

Sitting side-by-side on the floor, backs against the counter, they set the plate of cookies between them along with their mugs of milk, handy for dunking. He picked up the firm molasses cookie with large pieces of sugar that stuck to his fingers. The crisp outside yielded to a softness that melted in his mouth. Sweet with a hint of saltiness to make it interesting, just like Gwen. Tonight, he’d see if she would melt in his arms, and his mouth. It was his night.

Inspiration: For me, inspiration swirls in the ether until various pieces collide in my brain. Three factors came together for Bad Traveler.

1. There is nothing fun about flying cross country with an infant. I have been the screaming baby section and run through airports with car seats precariously dangling from the stroller. I have pretended turbulence is “super-fun bouncy ride in the sky” even though I’m more scared than the kids.

2. Living near the home of Seal Team 6, I grew more aware of issues facing veterans as they returned home from war. A series of reports in the Virginian-Pilot piqued my curiosity.

3. The bakery near me closed. I decided to invent one, which is much easier than opening a real one.

Ten facts about Lola:
1. I am a bad traveler. The only thing worse than flying is traveling by boat or car, but I love seeing new places.

2. When I was four, I decided I wanted to go to Australia because it looked lonely.

3. In high school, I went to Australia for a summer as part of a 4-H youth exchange program. I stayed on farms and sheered a sheep.

4. I rarely make brownies – too dangerous.

5. My baking powder biscuits won a blue ribbon at the Illinois State Fair, but nowadays, I usually make buttermilk biscuits.

6. I have lived in seven states, but only one west of the Mississippi.

7. My favorite of high-heeled shoes are a black Chuck Taylor All-Stars.

8. Two of my cats are feline nudists, aka Sphynx cats. The other has fur.

9. My curls are natural. The color isn’t.

10. The best part of my morning routine – reading a few chapters of a book while drinking my first cup of coffee.

Fairy Tale Magic Blog Hop: Twist a #Grimm's Fairy Tale into #BeyondFairytales

Love...All things Fairy Tale? We're celebrating them in all their forms...originals, adaptations, twists and retellings. Sweet or steamy or a little bit twisted! Hop through all the blogs for giveaways at each stop! And don't forget to enter for the $100 Amazon gift card grand prize drawing too!

Some fairy tales have been retold countless times, and some are so obscure most people have never heard of them. Yep, you guessed it. I went the obscure route!

The Three Army Surgeons is a little gruesome and definitely not a romance in its original form. Basically, there are three guys who cut out their eye, hand and heart. They put them on a tray and give them to an innkeeper, intending to put them back in their bodies the next day. Instead, the parts are taken, so a soldier replaces them with the eye of a cat, the hand of a thief and the heart of a pig. The new parts then make the guys act like a cat, a thief and a pig. The guys discover they’ve been tricked and return to confront the innkeeper who gives them some money to pacify them. (You can read the full original story here.)

I put a twist on this fairy tale, keeping the original tale as a framework and a bit of comedy (yes, comedy!) to weave my second chance romance story around.

Once Upon a Marriage
Time is running out for Armina Keer to have the baby she’s always wanted. Before she can move on with her life, she needs her estranged husband to sign their divorce papers. When she can’t get him to respond, her meddling uncles arrange for a trip to his inn. Despite vowing to guard her broken heart, she has to settle the past before she can have a future.

Ian Keer might not deserve a second chance with his wife, but he’s not going to give up one either, not with the immediate flaming attraction still between them. While her uncles’ antics wreak havoc on life at The Inn, he offers her the ultimate gamble: Spend the night with him, and afterwards he’ll sign the papers if she still wants to leave.

With everything riding on one night together, Ian must convince her that their love is strong enough the second time around, and Armina must decide if love is worth sacrificing her dreams.

Excerpt

“Where did you meet this guy?”
“Online.”
“That’s not safe.”
“I trust him.” Fire spurted from her gaze.
She’d never trusted him when they’d been married. Never let him take the lead. How come time hadn’t healed the wounds? Instead, they’d festered inside him.
Online relationship? He felt the blood drain from his head.
“What?” Panic rose in her voice. “Are you Panda?”
He considered pretending otherwise. He could make his escape now and forget about the crazy mistake of meeting a strange woman in a restaurant because of an internet connection. Then he wouldn’t remember all those times he’d tried to reach out to her and she’d pushed him away and read her book or gone to sleep. The accusing words when she’d found out he’d been looking at porn. The hatred in her eyes when she’d asked him for a divorce.
“Are you?” She collapsed on the chair opposite him.
“I…I can’t do this.” He rose. “I’m sorry. You shouldn’t meet guys you don’t know.”
“It’s a public place.” There was a catch in her voice.
“I don’t remember you being so pale. Blonde doesn’t suit you.”
She wrapped her face in her hands and became as stiff as a corpse. A crack of sympathy passed through him for a moment, but he pushed it away. Yet, she was Hedge. The woman who wanted to experiment. Who hurt from a previous relationship.
He’d called himself a loser.
A laugh came out, sounding out of place, and then he laughed recklessly.
She jerked her head towards him, anger evident in the harshness of her features.
“I called myself a loser.”
“What?”
“It’s ironic, isn’t it? If we’d both gotten over all our baggage from our messed up marriage, maybe we wouldn’t be here, digging up all the past hurt.”
“I didn’t know who you were. I wouldn’t have said those things to you. It’s the first time I’ve told anyone how I feel.” She didn’t look good with her face screwed up.
He glanced at her body. Had that changed? Her breasts pressed tight against the black shirt she wore. He remembered the first moment she’d shown herself to him on their wedding night. Merryn had insisted upon waiting for that special night. Her reserve had made her all the more desirable to him. In the beginning.
What if he could have another chance to touch her body? She was still shaped to perfection. None of the other women he’d had compared to the beauty of Merryn’s body. The shape of her twins, those pink taut nipples, and the peaks contrasted against her narrow waist. The gentle dip from her slight stomach to her intimate area. He sighed.
“You still want to experiment?” He’d always been impulsive, but seriously, had he said that?

Author Bio:

Vicki writes erotic and fantasy romance. She loves taking her characters into an alternate world where strange and sexy things happen. She lives with her patient husband and three noisy kids in South Africa. Enjoy the following excerpt for Passionate History:

“Professor—Aidan,” she said, sounding embarrassed.
Good. “What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to find my rental car. I think I parked it somewhere around here, and I can’t exactly remember what it looks like.”
“Can’t you click the remote key? If it’s nearby the lights will go off when you unlock it.” There, his brain had produced a sensible suggestion, even as it occupied itself with cataloguing her scent, the tired smudges under her eyes, and the curve of her hips outlined by a flowy skirt.
“I would, except the only car left on the lot was some micro-budget sedan. I can’t remember the model.” She held her key out to him. “No remote entry.”
“Can you call the rental car company?”
“I tried. They’re closed.”
Aidan stood in the street, staring at her. Bree Ross. Former student. Former lover. It was unbelievably frustrating how much he still desired her. But perhaps this was the universe telling him he had a second chance to be a gentleman.
“Well, you can’t go around looking in every car on campus. You’ll get arrested. Come on, I can give you a ride.”
“Oh, no, thanks. I can walk.”
“It’s pitch black and about to rain. I’m not letting you walk anywhere alone tonight.”
“I can go to the green, to the dance. I can catch a ride with a friend.”
“Then I’ll walk you to the dance.”
“That’s all right—”
“Bree.” His voice was a warning. “Don’t be an idiot. Let me help you.”
